A general overview of eye size and placement.

"What size eyes should I use for my bear?"

Choosing the size and placement of your bear's eyes is a major part of his overall look and character, so there is no absolute answer to this question. Larger eyes and/or placing the eyes further apart will make a bear look younger and more cub-like. Smaller eyes and/or placing the eyes closer together will give him an adult, older bear look. Solid black eyes appear larger than eyes with a colored iris and pupil even though they may be the exact same size eyes.

Eyes are measured in millimeters. The eye is measured from edge to edge, right through the middle. 5mm is less than 1/4". 25mm equals approximately 1".

Playing around with the size and placement will give you a variety of different expressions and looks. To aid in this big decision, we carry a wonderful product called Perfect Size Eyes. Perfect Size Eyes are pairs of eyes in a range of sizes that come in a set. The eyes are mounted on a single straight wire, which allow you to push them through the bear's head at the eye placement points to see if you like the placement and size you have chosen. You can move the True Eyes around until you are happy with the placement and size and then insert the real eyes.

Although I highly recommend looking at your bear and choosing the eye size to suit that particular face, here is a very general average range of bear sizes to eye sizes to get you started:

1"-2.5" bear - 1mm (glass beads recommended)
