Combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter; stir in nuts and chocolate chips; set aside.
Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Blend in vanilla and melted chocolate chips. Add buttermilk and flour alternately. Put in two greased 9" layer pans and sprinkle with above crumb mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes. Cool. Frost middle and sides with whipped cream.
*A cake mix may be used instead of the (scratch) recipe. Follow the directions on the box and top the cake with the graham cracker mixture. This recipe was one of the most requested cakes at birthday time!
